Expect More Cable and Domino in ‘Deadpool 2’

With the 2018 summer season quickly approaching, it seems fair to say that Deadpool 2 is one of the most anticipated movies coming out in the next few months. Despite the insanely great buzz surrounding the film, there have been recent reports that Deadool 2 has been performing poorly with audiences at recent test screenings. Although these rumors have swirled, seemingly coming out of nowhere, collider is reporting that these rumors have been greatly over-exxagerated. Here’s the lowdown on Deadpool 2, according to Collider:

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/-JtQCkAVpCY”]
We’re hearing that the first Deadpool 2 test screening was in January, when the film tested around 90 or 91 out of 100. The studio then had another test screening after more editing had been completed, at which point the film tested in the high 90s. However, while both test screenings went well, our sources tell us that crowds in both screenings had the same “complaint”: They wanted to see more of both Zazie Beetz’ character Domino and Josh Brolin’s character Cable.
So it seems that the recent hullabaloo about Deadpool 2 being “bad” is merely an overstatement. As Collider so astutely mentions, reshoots/pick-up’s are a normal part of the filmmaking process, so this shouldn’t necessarily alarm anyone. As a person who has been to numerous test screenings in the past, this is a normal part of seeing how a general audience reacts to a given film. Ultimately, the point of test screenings is to acquire this audience feedback and apply it to the film itself, so it makes sense that 20th Century Fox would treat audiences wanting more of Josh Brolin’s Cable and Zazie Beetz’ Domino with more than a grain of salt.

David Leitch steps into the director’s chair for the sequel, with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning to write the script. In addition to Brolin and Beetz, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hidlebrand, T.J Miller, Stephan Kapacic, Jack Kesy, Leslie Uggams, Terry Crews, and Eddie Marsan. The film is currently slated for a May 18th release date, moving up a few weeks from it’s intended June 1st, 2018 release. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
