Director Danny Boyle has confirmed that he intends to direct the untitled Bond 25, which will be the final outing for Daniel Craig as the title character. The development on the upcoming Bond 25 has revealed itself in surprising and unfamiliar ways. Confirming that Craig would indeed return after Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson decided to send a dump truck of cash to his home as incentive to return, the search began for a distributor. The duo eventually landed a deal with Annapurna Pictures for domestic distribution rights, and the search for a director then began. Christopher Nolan’s name was thrown around many times, but just last month it was reported that Boyle and writer John Hodge were working on a new “original” idea for Bond 25.
This had come as a major surprise to many, as the producers had already commissioned a script that was ready to shoot beforehand. Now Boyle, speaking with Metro (via The Playlist) Boyle not only confirmed the rumors, but also stated that he is hoping to get the film off the ground and shooting by year’s end.
“We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.
“We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”
With a theatrical release slated for November 8, 2019, it will be interesting to see how doing a page one rewrite on the script will affect the release schedule, if at all. Either way, make sure to stay tuned as we learn more about the film and Danny Boyle’s influence on it in the coming months.
