Catching Up With Shark Week’s Forrest Galante To Discuss The Special ‘Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds’

When thinking about the many, many species of sharks that exist some of the first ones to come to mind include the Great White, Hammerhead, Mako, Lemon and Reef sharks just to name a few. But, did you know that there are more that 350 different species of sharks that exist and even more are continuing to be discovered and studied.

In Forrest Galante’s Discovery Shark Week special “Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” the focus is on some of these lesser known shark species and spotlights many of their unusual and distinct chrematistics that set them apart from other species of sharks. “Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” is described, “The tip of South Africa is a hotspot for unusual sharks that exhibit bizarre behaviors and unusual, otherworldly appearances. Wildlife biologist Forrest Galante explores stunning kelp forests and ocean depths never-before-seen by humans to study these extraordinary creatures.”

We caught up with Forrest Galante to talk about his studies and his discoveries while researching these “alien” shark species!

“Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” premiered on Discovery on Monday, July 24th at 10 p.m. ET.
