Sonic the Hedgehog 4K Blu-ray And DVD Review – Sonic Speeds His Way Into Our Hearts And Homes

The film industry has been pushing digital and home releases at warp speed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and we can’t say we are complaining.

Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog sped into our homes much early than expected with a digital release back on March 31 and the release of the 4k, Blu-ray, DVD combo pack on May 19th! In addition and to make things, even more, fun, the 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Combo Packs come with a limited edition comic book featuring an adventure with Sonic and the Donut Lord.

The Blu-ray release of Sonic the Hedgehog could not have come at a more perfect time, as we truly needed this fun and entertaining romp of a film to allow us to escape the endless news cycle while quarantining at home during the current health pandemic.

Directed by Jeff Fowler Sonic the Hedgehog features the voice of Ben Schwartz as Sonic, alongside Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as Sheriff Tom Wachowski. Based on the beloved Sega video game series, the film was doing quite well for Paramount before it’s theatrical run came to a quick end due to COVID-19.

In addition to the film looking stunning in 4k Blu-ray all of the extra bonus features that came along with the combo pack were incredibly fun to explore. The commentary from director Jeff Fowler and the voice of Sonic himself Ben Schwartz was informative and the blooper reel, especially those from the always hilarious Jim Carrey were an absolute riot.

It was also fun to see some of the deleted scenes that never made it into the final version of the film, as well as learning just how Jim Carrey brought the supervillain, Dr. Robotnik, to life on the big screen. We also enjoyed getting a sneak peek into Sonic’s next adventure with the Around The World In 80 Seconds featurette.

Sonic the Hedgehog definitely sped his way into our hearts with this film and now into our homes as well. While the film is definitely geared more toward young children, it has just the right amount of dry humor to keep adults on their toes as well, so it is the perfect film to sit down and enjoy with the entire family not only now, but for years to come.
