’65’ Blu-Ray Review

“65” is a sci-fi thriller that follows a pilot (Adam Driver) and a young girl (Ariana Greenblatt) who crash-land on Earth 65 million years ago and have to survive among dinosaurs and other dangers. The film is written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who also wrote A Quiet Place, and produced by Sam Raimi. The film was released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on May 30, 2023.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray offers a stunning visual presentation that showcases the 4K source and enhances the detail and contrast of the film. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is also impressive, especially during the action scenes and the score by Bear McCreary. However, the disc is lacking in bonus features, as it only includes a few deleted scenes and a short featurette on the making of the film.

In my opinion, 65 is a fun and exciting film that delivers on its premise of space man vs dinosaurs. The film does not try to be too realistic or complex, but rather embraces its b-movie nature and provides a fast-paced and entertaining ride. Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt are both great in their roles, and they have a believable chemistry as they bond over their survival. The film also has some emotional moments that add some depth to the characters and their situation. I think 65 is a worthy addition to the sci-fi genre and a good example of how to make a simple but effective film.
