Say Goodbye To Rick Grimes! Andrew Lincoln Claims ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 9 Will Be His Last

Oh, please say it isn’t so! Collider has just broken the news that actor Andrew Lincoln, star of AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead will be leaving the show after the upcoming 9th season. There have been no official details revealed about just how our beloved Rick Grimes will be making his exit, but what has been revealed is that his character will only be appearing in about a half-dozen episodes in the new season.

We are sure that Carl’s untimely passing in season 8 has left Rick a bit of a mess, and sometime tells us that our favorite villain Negan will be surely playing some role in Rick’s upcoming departure. Do you think the showrunners will kill him off? They would almost have to, as we certainly can’t see Rick just moseying off into the sunset, at least not without a fight.

Andrew Lincoln has been with the series since day one, as was Chandler Riggs who portrayed his son Carl Grimes. Anytime this show kills off a major player, especially one that has been with the series since season one, you can expect the fan reaction to be upsetting. Many were not pleased with the decision to kill off Carl in season 8 and certainly expressed their displeasure online via social media.

The show has definitely been on a ratings decline over the last few season, however it seemed that perhaps by the end of season 8 things could have been on an upswing, but losing Rick Grime could definitely change that very fast. We are think that this could possibly spell the end of “The Walking Dead” for good!

This idea leaves us will a mixed bag of emotions, as being huge fans of the series we would be sad to see it go, but maybe it has just finally run it’s course and why not go out on top! According to Collider, “to fill the void in the show’s leading man status, we’re also hearing that AMC has offered substantial compensation to long-running series star Norman Reedus to not only stay on board, but to take over the show’s leading role.”

There were some waves last year when it was revealed that series star Lauren Cohan was holding out on signing her season 8 contract, as she had requested a new deal. She was granted a better contract from the network and has confirmed that she will be a part of season 9, however she too, will only be appearing in six episodes of the new season. Cohan’s ABC pilot “Whiskey Cavalier” has been ordered to series, so she will definitely have more work on her plate.

So far it looks like just Norman Reedus, who plays the fan favorite character Daryl Dixon is here to stay for the time being, but for just how long, no one really knows!  Can they just make the Daryl spin-off series already? Geez!

Do you think this spells the end of AMC’s The Walking Dead or can the show come back after losing such essential characters? Comment and let us know what you think and how you feel about this rather shocking news!
