Predicting Which Heroes Will Die in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

In just a few days, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be forever changed with Avengers: Infinity War. The Russo brothers have teased death in the trailers for the film and rumors of contracts expiring have us definitely thinking that some of our beloved characters from the MCU will make their final appearances on the big screen. We have put a list together predicting which characters we think will meet their demise and why in Infinity War.

Hawkeye

We were first introduced to Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in Thor and we would see him again in The Avengers, where Hawkeye would be mind controlled thanks to Loki. After that film, Renner expressed his issues with the way the writers had Hawkeye portrayed. This would lead to more of hero Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron where his backstory played a big role in the film. Hawkeye came out of retirement with Captain America: Civil War and we have not seen in the MCU since. Hawkeye will be in Infinity War but the fact that he has been left out of all of the marketing for the film raises some red flags. Now it’s obvious that leaving him out of the marketing is most likely because it will possibly spoil the film. We think that Hawkeye as a character will die because here’s just a guy that shoots an arrow trying to go up a power-hungry giant like Thanos. Thanos will swat his arrows like a horse swatting away flies with its tail. But just because Hawkeye as a character may die, that doesn’t not mean Clint Barton will die. We are thinking if he may come back as another character if he does survive. Ronin anyone?

MARVEL’S AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
Don Cheadle as War Machine, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

War Machine

James Rhodes “War Machine” (Don Cheadle) barely survived Civil War. His spine and legs were casualties as he fell hundreds of feet during the airport fight scene. Going into this film we think each team/group will need to be deeply impacted by losing a member. At least for the core groups that have been in the MCU the longest such as team Iron Man, team Cap and Avengers. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is the first hero to start this whole MCU and you can make a fair debate that he may perish in the film but we don’t think so. But someone definitely close to him will die.

Pepper

Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) has been in and out of the MCU, including some of the more heavy Iron Man related films such as Age of Ultron and Civil War. Though she’s Tony Stark’s main squeeze, she not really needed as we go into the next phase. Once again, someone close to Iron Man has to die and Disney loves Jon Favreau too much, so we don’t think Happy is going anywhere.

Heimdall

Heimdall (Idris Elba) has been the protector of Asgard and the Bifrost Bridge. We last saw Heimdall briefly in Thor: Ragnarok as he did his part in helping Thor see things he could not. We feel that he may be the casualty that comes from the Thor/Asgard team because we do not think MCU is ready to let Thor go. But if they did, they can always go the comic route and have a female Thor take Chris Hemworth’s place. It’s not a bad idea.

M’Baku

From what we’ve seen in the trailers and images, a lot of the film will take place in Wakanda. This means destruction and loss will have to take place in this newly open land. M’Baku (Winston Duke) was a surprise hero in Black Panther. He’s a great character but we think Disney is too smart to get rid of the biggest stars of that franchise such as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Okoye (Danai Gurira) or Shuri (Letitia Wright). Those losses are definitely not happening.

Nebula

Since Thanos (Josh Brolin) is the big bad villain of the MCU, his daughters Nebula (Karen Gillian) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) will be a huge part of the story. Now this can go one of two ways. Nebula can join Thanos and return to her villainous ways or she can sacrifice herself and die a hero. She is a big part of the Guardians of the Galaxy and in both films of the franchise, we saw the Guardians lose members. The original Groot and then Yondu. We would like to think marvel would give the Guardians a break this time around but in an all out war, anything goes.

Captain America

This is likely the most sad loss we may experience in Infinity War. The trailers have been hinting at Cap going fist to fist with Thanos and we have all heard the rumors that Chris Evans wants to put down the shield and wrap up being Captain America. The MCU has set up for it pretty perfectly to wear Steve Rogers could have a noble death and either Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) or Falcon (Anthony Mackie) could take over as the Phase 4 Captain America, much like the characters did in comic story arcs.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters April 27 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson,Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Wong,Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro,Danai Gurira and Josh Brolin.
