Will Captain Marvel Appear In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’?

When it comes to Avengers: Infinity War, there are a lot of question left to be answered. Although the majority of the ridiculous ensemble cast has been revealed, there’s one character whose potential appearance in the film is still up in the air–Captain Marvel. Although Brie Larson has already long-been confirmed for the character, there are still many questions that linger about her potential appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. Disney has denied rumors that she would appear in the first film since Infinity War and Avengers 4 were split into two separate entities, but a new interview with Joe and Anthony Russo on the set of the film seems to suggest otherwise.

In the interview with ET, Joe Russo seems to have contradicted his own words, along with disney’s statement–at least inadvertently. When asked about the female heroes in the film, this is what the director had to say:
“Yeah, we have some great female characters in this. Captain Marvel is in it, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, we have Wakanda is coming in and there’s a whole group of characters that are coming from the Wakandan universe, from the Black Panther universe. Amazingly strong characters, strong-willed characters, and we have the Guardians, and two of the Guardians are daughters of Thanos so there’s a really strong connection to the main villain of the story and I think you’ll see in the film that they’re very pivotal to the storyline and I think the arcs are fantastic so, we’re really really proud of being able to introduce Captain Marvel in this one.”
[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/23Wt81bjoTg”]

Although this could very well be taken at face value, it seems that this comment should be taken in context of both Infinity War and Avengers 4, instead of just the former. Given the time-travel implications of the yet-to-be-titled Avengers 4, my bet is that Captain Marvel will make her first appearance as an avenger in that movie. When you also consider the fact that Captain Marvel standalone film will not only be released between those two films, but that it will also be a period piece set in the 1990’s, this theory starts to  make a little more sense. It’s also very possible that Larson’s Carol Danvers could make an appearance in some sort of post-credits scene, but I really don’t see a need for the inclusion of Captain Marvel in the first film. Either way you shake it, we will learn the truth in only a few weeks when the film hits theaters on April 27th..

Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Wong, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro, Danai Gurira and Josh Brolin. The film recently pushed up it’s release date, and now hits theaters on April 27, 2018. Here’s the official synopsis:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
