Golden-Globe winning actress Gina Rodriguez is set to star in a live-action Carmen Sandiego feature for Netflix. The Annihilation star was already attached to voice the main character in Netflix’s reboot of the 90s animated series which is set to come out next year.
Carmen Sandeigo (Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego) was originally a computer game in the 80’s which started out as a mystery exploration game and then turned into more of an educational game. In the video game, Carmen Sandeigo was a thieving villain and ringleader of a criminal organization named V.I.L.E. As the player of the game, the object was to stop the crook from stealing and ultimately catch Carmen. The game was so popular that it became a PBS gameshow for children and would later become an animated series.
Rodriguez will produce the the live-action feature through her production company I Can and I Will, alongside Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser.
There’s no word yet on when we can expect the live-action feature but there is a synopsis for the upcoming animated series.
