‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ Concept Art Revealed; Takes Place During ‘Infinity War’

Marvel has released a piece concept from Ant-Man and The Wasp that showcases the latter of the title characters in action. Although most of the focus in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be on the impending Avengers: Infinity War, it’s easy to forget that we have another Marvel release with Ant-Man and The Wasp just a few months later. The sequel follows Ant-Man as he struggles with the consequences of juggling his life as a superhero and a father. When Scott is confronted by Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), they work together to unlock secrets of the past.

Empire debuted the concept art, along with some thoughts on the character from director Peyton Reed, which you can find below:
“It was important to me, in this movie called Ant-Man and the Wasp, that she’s not a supporting character,” he told Empire in the new issue. “She’s a lead character. She’s become a fully-formed hero.”
Indeed, it seems that–as the title suggests–Wasp will finally be getting her due in the Giant-Man-Sized sequel this summer. Although the concept art itself is essentially a beefed up version of what we saw in the exciting first trailer for the film, it does give us a fun look at a fully-formed Wasp in the image. To be honest, I’m really glad that Marvel is finally taking great strides to showcase some of the stronger female characters such as Hope Van Dyne in this new film. Along with characters like Captain Marvel‘s Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), there’s a good chance that Wasp and Captain Marvel will eventually become prominent in upcoming projects like the yet-to-be-titled Avengers 4.

Even though Ant-Man and The Wasp and Infinity War are due out very close to one another, they also share the distinction of being the first concurrently-released set of Marvel films to take place roughly around the same time. When asked by a group of journalists about how closely these two films align form a timeline perspective on the set of Avengers: Infinity War last year, Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that Ant-Man and The Wasp  would “have some elements that stitch in”:
“They all lead in in their own way, I think. As far as plot elements that actually drive towards the story, again, I think Marvel does a great job of segmenting the movies so that you can have your own experience in each film. I think from a plot standpoint, if there’s any corollary, Ant-Man and The Wasp probably has some elements that stitch in.”
Although the Russo’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt since the duo are not heavily involved with Ant-Man and the Wasp, one small detail that people with sharp eyes would notice is that Ant-Man and Wasp are pretty much missing from the marketing for Infinity War. Which, in turn, seems to line up with what we already know about the film based on the synopsis for the film. Either way you shake it, expect the duo to make some sort of appearance in Avengers 4 next summer after this film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael PeñaWalton GogginsBobby Cannavale,  Judy GreerTip “T.I.” HarrisDavid DastmalchianHannah John KamenAbby Ryder-Fortson, Randall Park, and Laurence Fishburne. The film opens in theaters on July 6th, 2018. Here’s the official synopsis for Ant-Man and the Wasp:

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
