Trailer Binge: ‘Tully’, ‘Prospect’, ‘Scary Love’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ & ‘Luke Cage’

Welcome to Trailer Binge, a recurring feature where we get a chance to catch up on some of the recent trailer releases in the past week. Whether it be indie releases, or recent movie and TV trailers that may have otherwise slipped through the cracks, Trailer Binge allows us to catch up on the seemingly constant onslaught of new new content being released each week.

In this edition of Trailer Binge, we take a look at new trailers for Jason Reitman’s Tully, the new indie science fiction movie Prospect, a surprise new Tommy Wiseau project called Scary Love. Plus, we have a handful of new “season 2” trailers with Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Luke Cage. Let’s start binging!


‘Tully’ Trailer

Tully reunites director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody in their first collaboration since Juno. The film stars Charleze Theron, Mark Duplass, Mackenzie Davis, Ron Livingston and Elaine TanTully is set for theatrical release on April 20, 2018.

A new comedy from Academy Award-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).


‘Prospect’ Trailer

Prospect is a feature film based on the 2016 short film of the same name that saw it’s premiere this past weekend at SXSW. Directed by newcomers Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell,  the film stars Pedro Pascal, Sophie Thatcher, Jay Duplass, Andre Royo, Sheila Vand, and Anwan Glover. The film currently has no release date.

A teenage girl and her father travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They’ve secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems hidden in the depths of the moon’s toxic forest. But there are others roving the wilderness and the job quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the forest’s other ruthless inhabitants, but with her own father’s greed-addled judgment, the girl finds she must carve her own path to escape.


‘Scary Love’ Trailer

Scary love is described as “a science fiction tale told in the style of classic B-movies and outfitted with practical special effects, laser beams, and lunatic ideas.” The film marks the first collaboration between director Jennifer Juniper Stratford and star Tommy Wiseau, and currently has no release date. Here’s the official synopsis:

“In a bleak Los Angeles of the future Tommy Wiseau plays a bounty hunter in search of his long lost love. But while the Wars of Cancellation have turned his city to rubble his search for love is rife with complications in a population full of mutants, freaks, and cannibals.”


‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 Trailer

Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel. Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu April 25th.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.


‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Season 2 Trailer

The show stars Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley Smith, Patrick Warburton and K. Todd Freeman, Lucy Punch, Nathan Fillion, Tony Hale, Robbie Amell, Sara Rue, Roger Bart and David Alan Grier. Season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events launches globally Friday, March 30 on Netflix.

Based on the internationally best selling series of books, season two of the Netflix original series plunges further into the epic world of this darkly comedic mystery. Starring Emmy and Tony Award-winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – and their extraordinary encounters with the devious Count Olaf who will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. Foiling his many dastardly plans and disguises, the young siblings discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death, links to a covert organization, and begin to unlock long-held family secrets.


‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer

Luke Cage season 2 will premiere on Netflix on June 22, 2018 and stars Mike ColterRosario DawsonSimone Missick.

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.
