A ‘Sopranos’ Prequel Film is In the Works

The Sopranos are returning, and this time it looks like our favorite family from New Jersey is going to be hitting the big screen. The hit HBO series ran from 1999 to 2007, and centered around Tony Soprano and the New Jersey mafia. After the show ended in 2007 many fans wished for a movie, and now it looks like that wish may well come true.

The movie will act as a prequel to the HBO series and is currently titled ” The Many Saints of Newark.” The script was written by Sopranos creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner. Some characters from the series are expected to appear in the movie which is set in the era during the Newark riots in the 60s, when African-Americans and Italians were rivals. Those rivalries turn deadly once gangsters from each side get involved.

The series is considered one of the most innovative shows ever, and has won numerous awards including 21 Emmy awards and 5 Golden Globes. Cast members from the show became household names like James Gandolfini, who played the lead on the show, and sadly passed away in 2013. Lorraine BraccoEdie FalcoSteven Van Zandt, Michael Imperioli, Jamie‑Lynn Sigler, Steve SchirripaTony Sirico, and Dominic Chianese also played memorable characters on the show.

David Chase will co-produce and Nicole Lambert will serve as executive producer. Davis Chase’s last film was the 2012 drama Not Fade Away starring James Gandolfini.
