Age of The Nerd
This year director Ti West delivered two films that will go on to be horror masterpieces. X which was released on March 18, 2022. And its prequel Pearl which was released on September 16th. Both films were well received by fans and critics. And showed that Mia Goth has quite the range.
The movie X starred Mia Goth as well as Jenna Ortega. Brittany Snow, and Kid Cudi. The film follows a cast and crew who gather to make a porno film on on an elderly couple’s rural Texas property, but find themselves threatened by an unlikely killer. Goth plays two roles the young rebellious Maxine, and the old lady with psycho vibes Pearl.
During the shooting of X. Filming had to stop shooting due to Covid. During the hiatus of filming West came up with the idea for two more films for the series. In 1918 a young woman on the brink of madness pursues stardom in a desperate attempt to escape the drudgery, isolation and lovelessness of life on her parents’ farm. West and Goth wrote the script for Pearl.
Pearl is a beautifully shot film. And Pearl’s fall into madness is played brilliantly by Goth. You can definitely tell that both West and Goth were inspired by the Wizard of Oz. And I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that both films will be studied in film school. Both X and Pearl are available to rent on Amazon Prime.
You can check out a teaser trailer below for Maxxxine the final movie in the trilogy. The film will take place in 1985. A release date has not be announced yet.
