How A Father’s Day Present Inspired M Night Shyamalan’s Next Film

This past father’s day, M. Night Shyamalan posted a picture that gave a little insight into how his next movie Old, came to be. According to M Night, his three daughters gave him the graphic novel Sand Castle as a fathers day present a few years back, and the director loved the story so much, he decided to make it into a film.

Old will be Shyamalan’s first feature film since 2019s, “Glass.” M Night’s latest film was filmed in the Dominican Republic during Covid-19. The film will star Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Eliza Scanlen, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Thomasin McKenzie. Old will be released in theaters on July 23rd.

After watching the trailer, I’m super excited to see what the Sixth Sense and Signs director has in store for fans. At the Tribeca Film Festival, M Night told The Hollywood Reporter, “No one has ever seen anything like it — in its tone and the way it’s just, I mean, it’s like nothing else,” Shyamalan said.

The present M Night received “Sand Castle” is by Frederik Peeters and Pierre Oscar Levy. The story revolves around a disturbing family vacation on a mysterious beach that rapidly ages people.
