pop! pop! podcast,

Pop! Pop! Ep. 61 – Spider-Man 3 to be Titled Homesick!?

You KNOW we love talking about Spider-Man news, this may as well be a Spider-Man podcast, but alas there’s other news to break down before we talk about the possible title for Spider-Man 3.

This week is a pretty heavy news-cast!  Nia DaCosta (Candyman, Little Woods) has been tapped to direct Captain Marvel 2; she’ll be the first African-American woman to direct a major Marvel film.  Hopefully, without the constraint of trying to be a 90’s movie, DaCosta’s personal style can shine through.  It’s been long rumored that Quentin Tarantino was going to direct a dark, R-rated Star Trek movie and god damn we’ve all been excited about it. But, this mythical Star Trek film is officially no-more, as Tarantino has confirmed that he’s dropping out.  RIP R-rated Star Trek.  The final nail has been driven into Fox’s coffin as Disney has mangled the 20th Century Fox name, removing the “Fox” title entirely and just calling it “20th television.”  With this, and shelving so many Fox projects, it’s a massive middle finger in the face of cinema history.

Shawn Ashmore has been added to season 2 of The Boys as a former member of The Seven named Lamplighter.  From Iceman to now being a pyro, Ashmore is a phenomenal addition to the show.  In extremely surprising news and completely out of left-field, The Fresh Prince is getting a gritty dramatic reboot.  It’ll be produced by the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, so we have to assume he believes in the project at least a little bit.  Finally, Olivia Munn is reportedly returning to her headlining role on G4TV; not much to say there, just plain ‘ole exciting news for us millennial nerds.

The MCU Spider-Man trilogy is shaping up extremely well with Homecoming & Far From Home and everyone is eagerly awaiting the next installment to finally complete a good Spider-Man trilogy.  Aside from casting news, the title of a film is generally the first thing we find out about these Marvel films, and rumors are coming out that this third film will be titled Homesick.  Does this mean Peter Parker is on the run after his secret identity was revealed at the end of Far From Home?  Did he get Covid?  We break down what we think the title means and who we think the main villain will be.  Tune in for all of this and more!
