Cult Series ‘Dark Shadows’ May Be Getting A Reboot On The CW

Rumor has it that The CW and Warner Bros. Television are in the process of developing a new series based on the classic 60’s cult series “Dark Shadows”. There is no word on just how the new series will differ for the classic series which blended together elements of a soap opera and comedy.

It is said that the pilot for the series will be written by Mark B. Perry (Revenge, Ghost Whisperer and Brothers & Sisters). A big fan of the original show, which he watched as a child when he came home from school, the showrunner has been after the adaptation rights for Dark Shadows for the last two years. This latest version will be “a modern-day continuation of the strange, terrifying, and sexy saga of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine — a mysterious, influential, publicity-shy group hiding a ghastly secret: for the past 400 years, they’ve lived under a curse that bedevils their blue blood with every imaginable supernatural creature and horror.”

The new team intends to get back to the roots of the original series, “which was so popular it actually saw Shakespearean actor Jonathan Frid become as popular in the teen magazines as the young heartthrobs of the moment, for his role as the vampire Barnabas Collins”.

The last time we heard anything from the world of “Dark Shadows” was 2012 film done by Tim Burton which starred Eva Green and Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, so we are definitely excited to see what The CW and Warner Bros. Television will do with this project.
