The Ego Of A Titan – Is Professional Wrestling Dead?

It was recently revealed that World Wrestling Entertainment would be moving their so called “B show” Smackdown to the Fox Network in 2019. WWE will be making close to a billion dollars when the deal is said and done. Smackdown averages about 5 million viewers a week. With a move to Fox is “professional wrestling” dead?

“Best for Business” is a saying that WWE has coined throughout the years but when a rival wrestling promotion tries to run a show in New York, well business and ego will collide. Ring of Honor known as ROH an independent wrestling promotion based out of Baltimore, Maryland decided to try there hand at running a show at Madison Square Gardens, but those dreams were short lived.

It seems WWE has put a stop to a possible show at the Garden for ROH. The McMahon family (owners of WWE) has used MSG as a staple for there brand of wrestling for decades, but the WWE has not run any major shows there in quite a long time. In fact, WWE has been spending a lot of time promoting big shows that are taking place outside of the US.

It is sad to see that the leading wrestling promotion in the world would resort to such measures as to put a roadblock in the way of creating possible competition. Truth be told competition can bring out the best possible product for everyone.
