Warner Bros. have released the first teaser trailer for ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part‘, the follow up to the 2014 smash hit ‘The LEGO Movie‘. The sequel takes place 5 years after the events of “Taco Tuesday”, once again following Emmett & Lucy as they face a new threat in the LEGO DUPLO, space invaders who wreck Bricksburg faster than they can rebuild.
This teaser trailer does a great job of setting up how the sequel builds on the ending of the original film, while also teasing the new adventure that’s to come. It’s clear from this trailer that most of this footage is very early in the story, but I’m absolutely loving the inclusion of The Beastie Boys “Intergalactic” set to all of the new footage from the film.
Director Mike Mitchell steps in to helm this time around with co-director Trisha Gum. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are still involved as producers and co-writers of ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part‘. The sequel sees the return of the original voice cast in Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Channing Tatum, Will Arnett, and Jonah Hill, while newcomers Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro join the cast this time around. ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part’ is set to hit theaters on February 8, 2019. In the meantime, here’s the teaser trailer & poster, along with the film’s first synopsis:
