Weekend Watch: Josh Brolin & Ryan Reynolds, James Cameron, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ & More

Welcome to Weekend Watch, where we highlight some of the best nerd-related videos released throughout the week. Whether it be short films, behind the scenes videos, or video essays, the only requirement is that they are about–in some shape or form–our favorite movies and TV shows!

In this edition of Weekend Watch, we take a look at a fun video to Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin hurling insults at one another, as well as a duo of scene breakdowns from ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ & ‘Black Panter‘. Plus, we have a cool video of James Cameron answering twitter’s burning Sic-fi questions, in addition to a great ‘Arrested Development’-style parody of ‘Star Wars’. Let’s jump right in!

To honor this weekend’s release of Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin sat down with BBC Radio 1 to play a little game called “Playground Insults”. The goal of the game is to make the other person laugh, and duo do not disappoint. In what is truly fitting for the tone of the film itself, this gives a little insight into what it’s like when these actors are working together.

Now that we’ve had a few weeks to process everything that ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ has to offer, here’s a cool video from Vanity Fair that features a breakdown of the scene where Thor meets the Guardians. Watch as directors Joe and Anthony Russo breaking down a scene from the film, discussing how lighting, set design, and CGI all help to bring the scene to life, as well as helping to inform the audience during the scene. It’s always amazing to see how much work goes into such a small but pivotal scene.

While we’re on the Marvel front, here’s another scene breakdown from Vanity Fair that features Ruth E. Carter discussing some of the immaculate costume design in ‘Black Panther‘. Watch as Carter discusses the character motivations through costuming, as well as honoring the different regions of Africa through the costume choices.

Up next, we shift gears to a video from Wired where James Cameron sits down to answer some of people’s burning twitter questions about Science Fiction movies. Even though the questions themselves are related to his films, Cameron seems to have a love for technology & Science and it shows here.

In anticipation of Ron Howard‘s big week with the release of both a new season of ‘Arrested Development‘ and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘, we check both boxes with this ‘Arrested Development‘-style parody of the original ‘Star Wars‘. It’s kind of funny how well the plot of ‘Star Wars’ fits in with narrator Ron Howard’s style of delivery for the Netflix show, but it’s a great primer for what’s to come this week for both properties.
