Universal Pictures has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson action film, ‘Skyscraper‘. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film stars Johnson as a former FBI man who now assesses the security of high tech skyscrapers. Of course, things go wrong, and the rock has to flex his muscles to fix the situation. All joking aside, ‘Skyscraper’ is in essence a combination of the plot of ‘The Towering Inferno‘ mixed with the tone and characters of ‘Die Hard‘.
It’s a fun premise, but I’m not sure if these trailers so far completely nail the tone for me. The film seems to be a little too self-aware for my taste, not only in it’s similarities between the aforementioned films, but also the overall cheeky nature of the phone. With that said, I would like to highlight that the all-too underutilized Neve Campbell looks to have a pretty badass role in this film. This makes me extremely happy, and is an instant win for the film in my mind.
In addition to Johnson and Campbell, the film also features Chin Han, Noah Taylor, Roland Møller, Byron Mann, Pablo Schreiber, and Hannah Quinlivan. ‘Skyscraper’ is set for release on on July 13th, 2018. In the meantime, here’s the new trailer along with official synopsis and teaser poster for the film below:

On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.
