After filming two episodes for upcoming third season of True Detective, director Jeremy Saulnier has left the series. Saulnier, who directed the well-recieved Blue Ruin and Green Room, has left under the all-too-suspicious “scheduling conflicts” as the given reason.
The HBO series has had a bit trouble getting it’s third season going, and this is not promising news. The series’ creator and show runner Nic Pizzolatto worked with director Cary Fukunaga on the beloved first season. Fukunaga has been attributed with helping establish the vision and tone of the first season, and did not return for season two.
Ultimately, season two was a different story. A far-less focused and interesting story was told to less-than-stelalr reviews. Different directors were rotated, and the lofty expectations set after the incredible season one were not met.

Veteran television director Daniel Sackheim (FX’s The Americans) will be helping Pizzolatto direct the remaining episodes. More news will no doubt trickle out in the next few months, until then, we’ll have assume “scheduling conflicts” was in fact the reason for the move.
True Detective Season 3 has an all-star cast including Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Stephen Dorff (Blade), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Ray Fisher (Justice League), Scoot McNairy (Argo), among others.
