Warner Brothers has released a promo for Rampage, starring Dwayne Johnson‘s muscles. The film is directed by Brad Peyton, with a screenplay by Ryan Engle and Carlton Cuse & Ryan J. Condal and Adam Sztykiel (that’s a mouthful) from a story by Ryan Engle, which based on the video game Rampage. This new promo does feature a few new bits of monster-on-monster action, but it’s pretty much attempting to use Johnson as the major selling point in this seemingly final trailer for the film. Even though Rampage recently saw it’s release date move forward a week in response to Infinity War doing the same, the film still seems poised to enjoy two weeks atop the box office.
What impresses me the most about this promo is that while cheeky at times, it serves to establish the tone of the film very well, especially when you include the self-shot footage by Johnson. With this promo, it becomes readily apparent that Rampage seems to not be taking itself too seriously in terms of tone, and this kind mentality is exactly what a movie like this needs. In addition to Johnson, Rampage is supported by co-stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello Jeffrey Dean Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, and Matt Gerald. Rampage is set for release in just a few weeks on April 13th, 2018. Here’s the new promo, followed by the film’s synopsis:
[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/a_i8bAeyNLU”]Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
