Showtime’s ‘I’m Dying Up Here’ Season 2 Trailer

Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, a show about comedians, is very dark and very dramatic.  That may come as a surprise to this who don’t know comics but they’re complex people.  Season one of I’m Dying Up Here had big expectations going into it.  It’s produced by Jim Carey, has an excellent cast of actors and comics, and Showtime’s marketing behind it.  While the series lived up to the hype and offered a unique window into the world of show business, not many people watched.

My belief was that most viewers had certain expectations about a show – based on the comedy era that produced Pryor, Robin Williams, and so many other greats would be funny.  I’m Dying Up Here has its funny moments for sure – it just leans 80 % into the dramatic.  Season 2 looks to amp up the drama, and explore new aspects of show business.

The show stars Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano, RJ Cyler, Brad Garrett, Andrew Santino, Erik Griffin, Al Madrigal Jake Lacy and many more.

Here’s the synopsis:

I’M DYING UP HERE delves into the inspired, damaged and complicated psyches of a fictional group of competitive but close-knit comedians mentored by Goldie (Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist but nurtures her comedians with tough love. The series takes viewers behind the curtain of the comedy scene that birthed the careers of legends such as Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and David Letterman, showing there’s truly no such thing as an easy laugh. The cast includes Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano, RJ Cyler, Andrew Santino, Erik Griffin, Al Madrigal and Jake Lacy. Emmy® winner Brad Garrett, Nicole Ari Parker, Xosha Roquemore and Stefania LaVie Owen will also recur in season-long arcs.

I’m Dying Up Here season 2 will on Showtime on May 6, 2018.
