‘Zombieland 2’, ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ & More Get New Release Dates

Sony has shaken up their release calendar in the next few years, with new release dates being set for ‘Zombieland 2‘, ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood‘ and more. Perhaps the most notable change here is ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood‘, which has moved two July 26, 2019, accoding to The Wrap. Quentin Tarantino‘s latest film had an original release date of August 9, 2019, marking the 50th anniversary of the Murder of Sharon Tate to the day. Since the movie reportedly uses these events as the backdrop for the movie, moving the release date up by two weeks is a smart but risky change.

While ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ currently faces no direct competition on the weekend of July 26th, but jam-packed release schedule for the month includes the like of ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home‘, and the live action/motion capture remake of ‘The Lion King‘, to name a few. Time will tell how this move works out, but the film’s ridiculous cast certainly won’t hurt it’s box office chances. Including (takes deep breath) Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Timothy Olyphant, Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Keith Jefferson, and Nicholas Hammond, ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ can’t come soon enough.

Additonally, Sony has also dated the freshly-announced ‘Zombieland 2‘ for October 11, 2019. Even though we previously learned that the long-awaited sequel would be arriving in theaters sometime in October 2019, this new release date confirms that ‘Zombieland 2‘ will indeed arrive in theaters the second weekend of that month. Details about the sequel are non-existent at this point–save for the fact we know original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Breslin are set to return with Ruben Fleischer returning to the director’s chair. The new release date will miss the original film’s tenth anniversary by only a few days.

Additionally, Sony has also set a release date for Greta Gerwig‘s remake of ‘Little Women‘ on December 25, 2019. The film marks the follow-up to Gerwig’s 2017 surprise hit, ‘Lady Bird‘ with a stellar cast that includes Saoirse Ronan, Timothee Chalamet, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, and Meryl Streep.Putting the film in a prime christmas day release date immediately sets up the film as a 2019 awards-hopeful.

Finally, Sony has dated the upcoming comic adaptation of ‘Bloodshot‘. The Vin Deisel vehicle that now boasts a February 21, 2020 release date. The upcoming horror film ‘Slender Man‘ moves to August 10th 2018, while the John Cho thriller ‘Searching‘ moves back a few weeks to August 24th, 2018.
