Tessa Thompson Joins Chris Hemsworth in ‘Men In Black’ Spin-off

It seems that the upcoming Men in Black spinoff will be a Thor: Ragnarok mini-reunion. THR is reporting that Tessa Thompson has officially signed on to join the upcoming film. Details are slim at this point on Thompson’s character, but she could potentially join her Thor: Ragnarok co-star Chris Hemsworth to be the main duo in the new spin-off. The new film is said to have a much bigger cast and will be set in the same universe as the original films, however THR also notes that this interpretation could end up being “more of an ensemble piece than a two-hander and will be more global in scope.”

Last we heard, Hemsworth was in talks to star in the new take on the Men in Black franchise, but this new report seems to suggest that the actor is expected to reach a deal soon. F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious, Straight Outta Compton, Friday) is set to direct the spinoff, which is being written by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum who have teamed up before for Iron Man, Transformers: The Last Knight as well as a few other films.

The original Men In Black films starred Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith where the two played agents K and J as they worked for a special agency that handled extraterrestrial cases. The franchise was made up of three films with the first hitting theaters in 1997, the second in 2002 and a third film hitting theaters in 2012. Rip Torn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Rosario Dawson and Josh Brolin also starred in the franchise.

The new Men in Black film is set to hit theaters June 2019.

About Chris Salce

I'm a pop culture fanatic based out of Southern California. My collection of comics and pop culture memorabilia would even impress The Collector. When I'm not busy writing about pop culture news, doing film reviews or interviewing celebs, my brother and I work on a comic book called Blood-RED (And yes, that was a cheap plug). I have a certificate of completion for a children’s storybook writing program.
