‘Terminator’ Reboot Casts Mackenzie Davis; Shoots This Summer

It’s been several years since we last saw a film in The Terminator franchise with 2015’s abysmal Terminator Genesys. Although that film effectively killed the franchise, we finally have hope for a return to greatness for the franchise with the yet to be titled Pseudo-sequel/ reboot. The film is set to be produced by James Cameron, who is closely overseeing the writing process, with Deadpool director Tim Miller currently set for the director’s chair. The film is also been said to ignore everything after Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and will be a direct continuation of that film, bringing back stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. Other than this, we haven’t heard much about the film in the past few months.

Now Variety (via Collider) is reporting that Mackenzie Davis has been added to the impending reboot of the Terminator franchise in a “key” role. Not only that, but we have also learned that the film is set to begin shooting later this summer, for a 2019 release. According to the report,
”Davis would be the face of the rebooted franchise, in the vein of Hamilton’s character Sarah Connor in the first two movies that Cameron directed. Sources say Davis has been the studio and Miller’s top choice for a while, but the casting needed sign off from Cameron, who is currently filming the Avatar sequels.”
THR alternatively reports that Davis’ character is not the true lead of the intended trilogy, and the producers are currently searching for a Latina female lead. Either way, Mackenzie Davsi seems poised for a breakout in a big way after acclaimed performances in shows like Halt and Catch Fire and Black Mirrorand movies like The Martian and Blade Runner 2049.

As mentioned above, the film is set begin principal photography sometime toward the the end of the summer, which came from Schwarzenegger himself (via thearnoldfans.com):
“We are starting to shoot Terminator 6 in June to the middle of October, so I am in that. I am looking forward to coming back as the T-800 model. It’s gonna be great with Tim Miller as the director and Jim Cameron is kind of supervising the whole thing.”
Obviously this could just be Schwarzenegger saying what he wants to say, but with a July 2019 release date slated, this seems to make sense. Although I’m a huge fan of this franchise, I just hope that Cameron, Miller & co. will do this film justice. Davis can be seen next in Tully, and The untitled Terminator reboot is set for July 26, 2019.
