New ‘Deadpool 2’ Teaser Channels Bob Ross

deadpool 2

20th Century Fox has released the first footage from ‘Deadpool 2‘. Initially, this trailer feels like another one of the brilliant viral videos that made the marketing campaign for the first ‘Deadpool‘ so special. In this first “Wet on Wet” teaser trailer, we see Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) parodying Bob Ross‘ ‘The Joy of Painting‘ – to great comedic effect. It’s at about the 1:30 mark that the trailer shows us our first glimpses of actual footage from the sequel and I have to say that, although brief, the new footage from ‘Deadpool 2‘ looks quite amazing.

It’s interesting, because this video feels like a very unique hybrid of trailer and viral video. I honestly hope that this gets the chance to actually play in cinemas, although the likelihood of that happening is slim. It was just a few days ago that we saw the first poster for the film — which is a play on a Norman Rockwell painting — was revealed. This poster is used as the punchline toward the end of the trailer, right before we get our first good look at Cable‘s hand (Josh Brolin) in the closing moments as well. Considering that this is only the beginning of what is sure to be a series of unique marketing up to the film’s June 1, 2018 release, you can expect a bunch more fun videos like this to hype the movie.

Deadpool 2‘ is directed by David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, John Wick), who takes over the directing reigns from Tim Miller for the sequel, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick return as well. In addition to Reynolds and Brolin, the cast includes Zazzie Beets, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapicic, and Karan Soni. Here’s the first teaser trailer, along with the hilarious “official” synopsis for ‘Deadpool 2‘ below:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
