Indeed, this years ceremony saw an amazing line-up of directors vying for the top prize that includes director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), and Jordan Peele (Get Out).

The nominations for the 90th Academy awards were announced today, and Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Shape of Water' seems to be continuing it's awards show streak with 13 Oscar nominations in total. 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' follows with 9 total nominations, and the third most nominated film with 'Dunkirk' landing 7 total nominations. Taking place in 1962, this marks Del Toro's second period piece since directing 2013's Pacific Rim. After the underwhelming audience reaction for his 2015 effort Crimson Peak, the auteur decided to make this film over Pacific Rim: Uprising. Based on the trailer, this seems like it was the right choice.
