Netflix’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quickly approaching, and the studio has released a trailer to promote their new Daredevil television series.
Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the trailer is that the show seems to be just as much about The Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) as it is about Daredevil (Charlie Cox). While I do respect a show that puts prominence on developing the Antagonist as much as the protagonist, I just hope that the show doesn’t deprive the audience to much of the title character. With that said, I do hope that the show will avoid a lengthy origin story, as this can quickly be bypassed in favor of exploring the characters in the current day.
Personally, I feel that the less seasons per property for theses Netflix series’ might be a better option. I love the idea of a miniseries that has a three season arc, but I don’t necessarily think that the smaller properties that they are planning on adapting are worthy of more than 2-3 seasons. While I do think that a property like Daredevil is prone to a lighter tone than that of this show, I am curious as to how a darker version of Daredevil will look and feel in this new iteration Here is the trailer for the show, which premieres on Netflix April 10th, 2015.
