Legendary Wrestler Vampiro And Director Michael Paszt Share Insights Behind New Documentary ‘Nail In The Coffin: The Rise And Fall Of Vampiro’

We recently had a chance to catch with legendary wrestler Ian Hodgkinson, otherwise known as Vampiro, and director Michael Paszt to chat about their amazing documentary film “Nail in the Coffin: The Rise and Fall of Vampiro”.

You would be hard-pressed to find another individual that has put as much heart and soul into the sport of wrestling than more than 30-year veteran Ian Hodgkinson and it was amazing to take a peek behind the scenes and get to witness how this legendary entertainer better known as Vampiro works. In fact, it seems he truly never stops working!

“Nail in the Coffin: The Rise and Fall of Vampiro” shows audiences another side of Vampiro, as we meet the man Ian Hodgkinson, who is so very much more than just a wrestling persona. Hodgkinson is first and foremost a father, however, he also juggles the many duties of constantly being on the road as both a performer, a talent manager, a production coordinator and so very much more!

Unlike many professional wrestling documentaries before, director Michael Paszt has constructed a fascinating and heartfelt look at a wrestler who has overcome and continues to battle with physical injuries, sexual abuse, and drug addiction. Not to mention the wild stories of working for Milli Vanilli, and wrestling alongside the punk rock band The Misfits – Vampiro’s stories are multi-faceted and completely enthralling.

Told through an engrossing collection of home videos and personal interviews with his closest friends and family, the documentary is an intimate and genuine look into a single father grappling with fame, the pressures of professional and personal responsibilities, and his own mortality.

“Nail in the Coffin: The Rise and Fall of Vampiro” celebrated its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in 2019, coming out with raving reviews. The film released in limited theaters on Friday, September 4, 2020, and is now available on major VOD/Digital platforms.

We absolutely adored the film and were definitely curious to chat with both Vampiro himself and director Michael Paszt to give us some more insight into the film. You can listen to our full chat below:
