Pop! Pop! Ep. 59 – Universal & AMC Finale / SDCC @ Home Recap!

Every year in July hundreds of thousands of nerds descend upon San Diego for Comic-Con but this year, instead, we all attended SDCC @ Home.  With there being no way in hell we could congregate in such a fashion, our only option was a virtual event… but before we get to that, we’ve got news!!

Hollywood is still in disarray amidst the Coronavirus and now CAA, the famous talent agency, has furloughed over 200 people seeing as the industry isn’t on a fast track to reopening.  Speaking of reopening, the war between AMC and Universal has finally come to an end, and whenever we’re allowed to go back to the theaters the two companies have come to an agreement on the window of time between theatrical and VOD release.  Still speaking of reopening, when those theaters do reopen, will you finally be able to catch Christopher Nolan’s Tenet?  Not if you live in the US!  The film has finally been taken off of the theatrical release schedule after being pushed multiple times.

SDCC @ Home was definitely not as good as the real thing but how could it be?  Panels weren’t live, the major studios were nowhere to be found, and we weren’t in San Diego with your closest nerd friends.  It truly was the saddest part of 2020… So far.  We break down the panels we did end up watching, which includes: What We Do in the Shadows, The Boys Season 2, The Walking Dead Universe, The New Mutants… and a few more.

We round it all out with a peek into how we personally handled no Comic-Con this year – we partook in an 8-hour zoom call with all of our con friends.  Jug sangria was enjoyed by everyone, memories were shared and the Director of Programming for SDCC himself, Eddie Ibrahim, even popped in to make it feel like we didn’t miss a year of Hall H! In the end, of course we would’ve rather attended the real thing, but it was definitely better than nothing.  Check out the podcast below and subscribe & share if you can!
