Pop! Pop! Ep. 53 – The 2020 Oscars

Welcome back nerds to a brand new episode of Pop! Pop! the Pop Culture Podcast!  Before we get to the 2020 Oscars we need to address something.  Yes, we have been doing this podcast for four years and yes, we just figured out how to properly use our audio mixer.  Look, none of us are sound engineers and while Taylor might be married to one… ah crap, look, we don’t have a legitimate excuse.  We do hope you enjoy the new, sweet, louder sounds of our voices though.  NOW ON TO THE NEWS!

While Sony and Fox (RIP) might not be on the same playing field as Marvel when it comes to putting out riveting superhero movies, we still love when they do because that means we get to talk about it!  Over the last week we got two new trailers for their upcoming films – Fox’s The New Mutants and Sony’s Morbius.  Fox was recently purchased by Disney in their attempt to own the galaxy and for some unknown reason, they’re going to finally release The New Mutants. This film has had at least three release dates over the last three years and we’re honestly surprised Disney is going to release it considering it has no franchise ties to any upcoming X-Men films.  But hey… more power to them?

Over in camp Sony, they’re still hard at work trying to create a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe without Spider-Man.  Morbius being their most recent addition after Venom, we see Jared Leto brood about dying before becoming a “not vampire” … but c’mon, he’s totally a vampire.  Most of the gang here seems to be a little bit more optimistic about this one, but Joel isn’t quite sold… Check out his trailer reaction below after you finish the podcast!  The surprise cameo at the end of the trailer may signify things are looking up for Sony when it comes to Spider-Man, but only time will tell.

One of the biggest news pieces to drop this week is that Colin Trevorrow’s episode IX script has leaked… uh oh.  Reportedly there are massive differences between this script and the final product we got in The Rise of Skywalker.  Scott Derrickson is the newest director of many to have “creative differences” with Disney, and he’s just dropped out of the Doctor Strange sequel.  With the massive success of HBO’s Watchmen series, you’d think Lindelof and the studio would be clamoring to jump in to production on a season 2… but it sounds like that’s not the case?  All of this news, and MORE, in this week’s episode!

2020 Oscars

Another year, another January, another round of Academy Awards.  The 2020 Oscars are right around the corner and just like last year, and the year before, we break down every category.  Will Parasite upset Hollywood to win best picture?  Is Avengers: Endgame going to win an Oscar!?  And why the hell isn’t Greta Gerwig nominated for best director?  Seriously, we break down every single category!  Tune in to hear all of our thoughts on EVERYTHING!
