Detective Pikachu Bolts Its Way Onto 4K Ultra-HD Blu-Ray In August!

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has finally revealed the details and street date for the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray of Detective Pikachu! The film has become a sizable hit commercially, garnering $425 million at the box office on a budget of $150 million. Despite garnering positive reviews (including this writer), the film was overshadowed by the cultural phenomenon that is Avengers: Endgame. Now, Detective Pikachu is looking for its time in the spotlight with a promising 4K Blu-ray release that will land in early August.

Detective Pikachu Blu-Ray Release Date & Details

The film will arrive on 4K Blu-ray on August 6th, 2019. Meanwhile, the film will see a July 23 release on digital platforms, including Movies Anywhere. Below, you can find the details on the release:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” will feature HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc will also feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

Detective Pikachu 4K UHD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack contains the following special features:

  • Detective Mode
  • Alternate Opening
  • My Pokémon Adventure
  • Creating the World of Detective Pikachu: Welcome to Ryme City
  • Uncovering the Magic
  • Creating the World of Detective Pikachu: Action
  • Colorful Characters
  • Creating the World of Detective Pikachu: Bringing Pokémon to Life
  • Mr. Mime’s Audio Commentary
  • Ryan Reynolds – Outside the Actor’s Studio
  • “Carry On” by Rita Ora and Kygo (Music Video)

As you can see, this Blu-Ray from Warner Bros. Home Video is shaping up to be another excellent release. The supplemental material looks solid, but there are still questions about whether features like “Detective Mode” will be up to snuff. Additionally, an audio commentary by Mr. Mime is destined to become either the greatest special feature ever or perhaps the worst. Time will tell which will be the case. If you missed the film in theaters, here’s the official trailer for the film, along with the 4K Blu-ray box art:
