Comedian Gabriel Iglesias Lands Netflix Sitcom

Stand-up comedy sensation Gabriel Iglesias has landed his own Netflix sitcom. The new comedy series Mr. Iglesias premieres on June 21. The show is part of a three-project deal for Iglesias with Netflix, and includes two stand-up comedy specials.

The sitcom stars Iglesias as a public high school teacher working at his alma mater. He takes on the responsibility of teaching a group gifted but misguided students to keep them in school and help them realize their full potential. The series also features Oscar Nuñez (The Office), Sherri Shepherd (PreciousThink Like A ManLess Than Perfect), Jacob Vargas (Sons of Anarchy, Devil), Maggie Geha (Gotham), Richard Grant (Smallville), Fabrizio Guido (World War ZWelcome to the Family) and Cree Cicchino (Game Shakers).

“A lot of my fans ask me what I would be if I wasn’t a stand-up comic,” Iglesias said in a statement. “I tell them a history teacher because I love history. So it’s great that in this sitcom, I have the opportunity to live out my alternate reality had I not become Fluffy.”

The show was created by Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing). Ron DeBlasio and Joe Meloche, who is Iglesias’ manager at Arsonhouse Entertainment, will serve an executive producers along with Hench and Iglesias.  The first season was ordered for 10 episodes.

Iglesias is in the midst of his Beyond The Fluffy World Tour, which wraps up on September 27 in Minot, ND.
