Aviron Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming film ‘Serenity‘, and it is intense. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as a fishing boat captain whose life is shattered when his ex-wife (Anne Hathaway) shows up asking him to murder her abusive Husband (Jason Clarke). The film comes from helmer Steven Knight, who directed ‘Locke‘, as well as penning the screenplay for the upcoming film ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web‘.
The trailer does a great job of using the visual metaphor of the taught fishing line being slowly pulled to creat massive amounts of tension. Even though the plot seems very…paint by numbers, I have a strong feeling that there’s a lot more lurking under the surface than what we are seeing here. Based on this trailer, ‘Serenity’ feels like a mix of ‘Wild Things’ and ‘Bloodline’, meaning that there are probably many twists abound in this one.
In addition to McConaughey, Hathaway and Clarke, the film also features supporting players in Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. ‘Serenity’ opens in theaters on October 19th, 2018. Here’s the official trailer, along with the official synopsis and some images from the film to follow:
[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/fz8nNAZ61y0″]From the creative mind of Oscar nominee Steven Knight comes a daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller. Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems.
