Guillermo del Toro Makes Fox Searchlight Home in Huge Deal

Academy-award winner Guillermo del Toro has signed a huge deal with Fox Searchlight which will give the director’s future films a home. On top of that, Fox Searchlight also announced that they are creating a new label (not yet named) which will serve as a home for projects in the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres, including those produced and curated by del Toro.
For the longest time, I’ve hoped to find an environment in which I can distribute, nurture and produce new voices in smart, inventive genre films and channel my own. In Fox Searchlight, I’ve found a real home for live action production — a partnership based on hard work, understanding of each other and, above all, faith. After the wonderful experience I had with Fox Searchlight on ‘The Shape of Water,’ I am honored to have the opportunity to continue the relationship. I am more than grateful to Nancy, Steve, David and Matthew for their trust in me and for joining me on this adventure. – del Toro
The first film will be Antlers, based on a short story called The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca. The story is about an elementary school teacher who takes in a troubled student that harbors a mysterious family secret with deadly consequences. The film will be directed by Scott Cooper (Hostiles) with a script written by Nick Antosca & Henry Chaisson. Guillermo del Toro will produce the film alongside David Goyer (The Dark Knight) and J. Miles Dale (The Shape of Water) with Kevin Turen (All is Lost) serving as executive producer.

Guillermo del Toro’s most recent film, The Shape of Water, earned an impressive 13 Oscar nominations and won four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

About Chris Salce

I'm a pop culture fanatic based out of Southern California. My collection of comics and pop culture memorabilia would even impress The Collector. When I'm not busy writing about pop culture news, doing film reviews or interviewing celebs, my brother and I work on a comic book called Blood-RED (And yes, that was a cheap plug). I have a certificate of completion for a children’s storybook writing program.
