This was a big week for the box office. Paramount’s horror/thriller A Quiet Place opened number one with an estimated $50 million. The film – written and directed by John Krasinski – was made on a reported budget of just $17 million. A Quiet Place has been getting almost universal praise from both critics and fans.
Last weeks champ Ready Player One dropped 40% from last week with an estimated $25 million. The Steven Spielberg directed picture is just shy of the $100 million domestic mark, currently sitting at $97 million. Ready Player One has done exceptionally well overseas earning an estimated $294.4 million, for a worldwide total of $391.3 million.
Fellow newcomer Blockers performed well, finishing third with an estimated $21.4 million in its opening weekend. The R-Rated comedy staring Leslie Mann and John Cena was made on a reported budget of $21 million, so the film has a chance to earn some money. Blockers has been getting solid reviews and is currently sitting at 83% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Black Panther continues to climb towards the top earning an estimated $8.4 million. Panther has now earned $665.3 million, passing Titanic becoming the third highest grossing domestic movie of all-time. The film has now earned almost 1.3 billion worldwide.
Rounding out the top five is Can Only Imagine with an estimated $8.3 million. Can Only Imagine has now earned over $69 million domestically.
