‘Weekend Watch’ Wiseau Edition: Tommy’s Joker Audidtion, ‘The Room’ Honest Trailer & More

Welcome to Weekend Watch, where we highlight some of the best nerd-related videos released throughout the week. Whether it be short films, behind the scenes videos, or video essays, the only requirement is that they are about–in some shape or form–our favorite movies and TV shows!

In honor of this week’s blu-ray release of The Disaster Artist, we’ve dedicated this edition of Weekend Watch to all things Tommy Wiseau. We start off by taking a look at the “Honest Trailer” for The Room, an interesting video of Wiseau breaking down a scene from The Disaster Artist, and a cool side-by-side comparison of both films. Plus, we have a brand-new interview where we learn what Tommy would have said at the golden globes, and finally a weird faux-audition of Tommy as Heath Ledger’s Joker. So without further adieu, let’s begin the Weekend Watch!

To give a little context into the world of Tommy Wiseau and the movie that enshrined him as one of cinema’s weirdest actors, we take a look at the Honest Trailer for 2003’s The Room. Produced on a reported budget of $6 million, Wiseau apparently wrote, directed, and stars in what some consider to be the best bad movie of all time. The honest trailer for the film doesn’t quite do it justice, and if you haven’t seen the film you’re missing out on a real treat.

In case that wasn’t enough to convince you of the range that Tommy Wiseau provides in his acting repertoire, here’s a quick commercial for what is presumably Tommy’s clothing business.

Turning toward The Disaster Artist, Vanity Fair recently published an unconventional “scene breakdown,” in which Wiseau compares the famous rooftop scene from that film & The Room. Rather than provide in depth analysis this scene, Tommy decides to put his own way spin on things. It’s a far cry from what we’s seen before form this series from Vanity Fair, but also so much Tommy that it sometimes hurts to watch.

Up next, we have a cool side by side scene comparison between The Room and the scenes that were recreated in James Franco’s film. The video, which was done by youtube user dimitreze, indicates the painstaking lengths that the filmmakers took to recreate scenes from The Room faithfully and accurately.

Although The Disaster Artist failed to garner any oscar love this year, this interview with Collider answers the question of what Tommy Wiseau would have said at the Golden Globes if he would have had the chance to speak. In case you don’t know, James Franco invited Wiseau onstage, only to pull him away from microphone when he tried to speak. We’ve hear Wiseau’s thoughts on the matter before, but this interview provides another great look into the fascinating mind of Tommy Wiseau nonetheless.

Finally, we have a oddly terrifying video from Nerdest where Tommy Wiseau “auditions” for Christopher Nolan‘s version of The Joker from The Dark Knight. What makes this video even more creepy is that they decided to dress the filmmaker in full Joker regalia. Kind of weird, but also fitting for a guy like Wiseau.
