Wait, Baby Groot is Actually Groot’s Son? – James Gunn Says So

In a weird turn of events, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn states that not only is Baby Groot NOT Groot (again) but he states that Baby Groot is actually the son of Groot.

The conversation all started on Twitter when a debate over who to save between Groot and the Porgs from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A fan tweeted:

As you can imagine, this comment opened up even more floodgates. You can read it all on Twitter.

At the end of the first Guardians film, Groot sacrificed himself for the sake of protecting the team. Rocket Raccoon then picks up one of the remaining twigs and plants it into a planting pot. The end credits roll and Baby Groot is born.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baby Groot opens up the film with a dance routine. During the end credits of Vol. 2, we see a “teenage” Groot in his room.

Gunn also mentions that the MCU Groot is not the same as Stan Lee’s Groot from the comics.

So there you have it folks. Let it sink in because James Gunn, the director of the films, has the final say in who is Groot.
