It seems that ‘Harry Potter‘ mastermind J.K. Rowling has a very good idea of where ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ franchise is going in later installments. Fans of the series know that the first film in the franchise changed the traditionally British setting to New York. We also recently learned last week that the second film in the franchise, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald‘ would be set largely in Paris. But now, director David Yates has all but confirmed that the change in scenery will will be a continuing trend throughout the rest of the franchise.
When asked by EW if the 3 entries that were left in the series would also be set in new and different locations like ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald‘, Yates confirmed “Yes”. Here’s how he elaborated on the global nature of the franchise:
“Jo’s already told us where the next one is taking place. It’s very exciting. This is a global story, ultimately. And given that there’s a global audience for this, it’s all the more delightful to take the story to different parts of the world.”
Naturally, Yates wouldn’t confirm where the final three entries would be taking place. EW also speculates that one of the three possible remaining locations could potentially be Germany, since the fateful 1945 duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald draws parallels to World War II. I’d also be willing to bet that another of the three ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ movies that we have left will venture to the East at some point.
In addition to Yates, producer David Heyman has also spoken about how they plan on expanding the universe by exploring new and different locations:
“We delve deeper into [J.K. Rowling’s] wizarding world — we’re in Paris, we’re in London and New York — the world is expanding. As you can tell from the [cast photo], we’re following quite a few characters. The new film has a very different feel than the first. It’s got a thriller quality. And it’s also a story about love and passion and all its forms — paternal, romantic, political. And it’s just a thrilling and very fun adventure. We took all we’ve learned from one and just expanded that and created a richer, deeper and more thrilling film which I’m excited to be a part of.”
‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald‘ hits theaters on November 16, 2016.
