‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Trailer 2 Lays Out Plot

The new trailer for Sicario: Day of the Saldado has Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin going to war in the sequel to Denis Vileneuve’s original 2015 crime classic.  Taking over director duties for Vilenueve is no easy task, but Stefano Sollima seems to be up to the challenge.  Sollima – an Italian director – will be making his english language debut with Sicario 2.

In the new trailer, which debuted on USA today, highlights the upcoming war that will be taking place.  The sequel picks up where the first film left off and begins a new chapter in the saga.  Cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the boarder, and federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) turns to Alejandro played by Benicio Del Toro for help.  Alejandro’s family was killed by the Cartel so both men come highly motivated.

The visual and tonal style seem to pick up right where the original left off.  This is most likely due to the fact that writer Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water) wrote the sequel to his original film, which was nominated for an Oscar.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado opens June 29 and stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener.
