Wes Anderson Returns To the world of Stop Motion With ‘Isle of Dogs’

‘Isle of Dogs’ tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, the 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. Check out the trailer right here!

In an attempt to keep the “indie spirit” alive,Director Wes Anderson hosted a raffle for someone to be a member of the voice-cast for this film. The only requirement was that you donated $10 or more to the Film Foundation, a non-profit founded by Martin Scorsese which specialises in the preservation and restoration of film across the world. This competition was held through CrowdRise, from which one winner was chosen to voice a dog in the movie.

Each raffle ticket entry is $10, and all proceeds from the raffle will go toward Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation, which works to restore old movies. Anderson stated “Movies don’t last forever,”… “Sometimes they have to be brought back from the dead.”

It’s great to see Anderson make an effort to support the indie process (even if stop-motion film-making is really only accessible to those with substantial finances).
