It’s no secret that the success of Deadpool will have a profound effect on superhero movies in the coming years. You can read our full review Here, s well as our exclusive interview with Colossus here, but suffice to say that the film has been a massive success with audiences. The movie has had a massive impact on the popular consciousness, with some people going as far as to petition for Deadpool as a SNL host. As Deadpool has quickly become one of the most popular comic book characters within the popular conscious, we have slowly seen more and more looks into the making of the film.

One of the greatest parts of Deadpool was Colossus. I have always been a fan of the character, but bias aside, the portrayal of Colossus in the film is quite true to it’s roots (much like the title character). Colossus has always been a character that I feel has never been given his due in the X-Men films, so it’s finally good to see the character actually get the spotlight for more than a few seconds.

In the film, Colossus is voiced by Stefan Kapicic, but it actually took 5 people to bring the character of Colossus to life. Director Tim Miller has a background in VFX work, acting as founder of his own VFX company before directing this film. As the featurette points out, it took the combined work of  Andrei Tricoteux (mo-cap actor on set), T.J. Storm (mo-cap actor for body motion), Glenn Ennis (inspiration for facial features), Greg LaSelle (facial performance), along with Kapicic all contributed to make the final version of the character that we see in the film.

Here’s the featurette:

In addition, I’ve included another interesting VFX breakdown for the film as a whole:

What are your thoughts on this rendition of Colossus? Do you think that these VFX reels do the work in the final film justice? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
