Let’s Boogie: ‘Sinister 2’ Trailer

The first full-trailer for the sequel to the hit 2012 supernatural horror film Sinister is here.  Sinister 2 is written by Scott Derrickson, the writer/director of the original, but will be directed by Ciaran Foy.  Derrickson of course is directing Doctor Strange for Marvel, so we’ll get his directorial flavors elsewhere.

Sinister 2 sees the return of Mr. Boogie a.k.a. Bughuul, who by the looks of the trailer, will get a ton more screen time in the sequel.  It has a Children of the Corn vibe, with the farm setting and creepy kids.  It looks fun enough, I just hope they don’t try to explain too much backstory and ruin a potentially scary movie.

Here’s the first look at Sinister 2:

The sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie. In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

To be honest, the sequel looks like a cheap/rushed/lazy/jump-scare-filled goofy sequel, but I’ll be there opening day of course.  And I hope I’m wrong.

Sinister 2 opens in theaters August 21st.
