Tori Amos Is Simply Majestic At Philadelphia Tour Stop

Mesmerizing, magnetic, magnificent, majestic…all those glorious “m” words can be used to describe Tori Amos’s recent tour stop at The Met in Philadelphia, PA. We swear if this woman were not a human being, she would be a unicorn! She gracefully holds the audience captive from the beginning to end of her nearly two hour set.

Amos is hitting the road in support of her 16th album release “Ocean To Ocean” and her Philadelphia set list was a solid mix of both new material and several surprise fan favorites from her extensive catalog of songs. After looking over the setlist from several other dates on this tour, we have to say that it looks like Philadelphia got one of the most eclectic shows, as Amos performed tracks spanning her entire career.  Accompanied on stage by bassist Jon Evans and drummer Ash Soan, Amos played her beloved Bösendorfer and multiple keyboards in the bench-straddling style that only she completely owns.

There was at least one song from albums such as “Songs From The Choirgirl Hotel”, “American Girl Posse”, “Scarlet’s Walk”, “Under The Pink” and of course “Little Earthquakes” to only name a few. Fans were pleasantly surprised by Amos’s gorgeous rendition of the Bruce Springsteen hit “Streets of Philadelphia” which Amos played as a solo piano piece sans her backing band. Songs such as “Little Earthquakes”, “Spring Haze”, “Northern Lad”, and “Take To The Sky” really brought the house down before Amos closed out the main set with the iconic “Cornflake Girl”. Amos then returned to the stage for a two song encore which included “Spies” and “Precious Things” to bring the evening to a delightful close.

Amos has proven once again that she can flawlessly follow the ebb and flow of the ever-changing musical landscape.  Her songs have a very special way of speaking to the listener and that is the gift of a true artist. Amos may angelically belt out songs in her crystal clear mezzo-soprano vocal range, but underneath she has never lost an ounce of the raw honesty and grit making her a true goddess of rock and roll.
