San Diego Comic Con 2021 Announces Dates For In-Person Event

After much anticipation event organizers for San Diego Comic Con have announced the dates for their upcoming in-person event. The beloved fan convention will be taking place from November 26-28 at the San Diego Convention Center. This will be the first in-person SDCC event taking place since 2019’s convention.

There will also be an online SDCC event taking place this year as well from July 23 to the 25th. There has been no official word yet on when badges for the upcoming in-person event will go on sale or what the capacity limitations will be. We can’t wait to see what the convention will have to offer and are thrilled to hear that it will be making its’ triumphant return.

Organizers, as well as, the city of San Diego took a huge financial hit when San Diego Comic Con 2020 was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is the hope of the organizers that the upcoming in-person convention will help both them and the city get back on their feet. Many local business suffered a loss of income due to the pandemic, so hopefully they will see an increase in revenue over the Thanksgiving weekend as more tourist flock to the area.

“While we have been able to pivot from in-person gatherings to limited online events, the loss of revenue has had an acute impact on the organization as it has with many small businesses, necessitating reduced work schedules and reduction in pay for employees, among other issues,” spokesperson David Glanzer revealed. “Hopefully this event will shore up our financial reserves and mark a slow return to larger in-person gatherings in 2022.”

Organizers hope by Fall 2021 that larger in-person gatherings will be permitted, but those details are still be worked out by government officials. Fans who purchased badges for 2020 which were rolled over to 2021, will now have them rolled over to 2022. They will not apply to this smaller in-person SDCC coming up over Thanksgiving. However, if requested, fans can receive a refund for their badges.
