Courteney Cox Will Return For Paramount Pictures And Spyglass Media Group’s Relaunch Of Scream

Courtney Cox will reprise her role as the dogged news reporter Gale Weathers from the preceding four films in the “Scream” franchise. Cox will join her ex husband, David Arquette who will return as Dewey Riley. The movie will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina. More casting updates should be announced soon.

Scream will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (“Ready or Not,” “V/H/S”) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (“Murder Mystery,” “Zodiac,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) and Guy Busick (“Ready or Not,” “Castle Rock”). Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers.

“Scream” is a long-running genre-busting horror franchise which generated four feature films including “Scream” (1996), “Scream 2” (1997), “Scream 3” (2000) and “Scream 4” (2011). Directed by famed “maestro of horror,” the late Wes Craven, the films went on to gross more than $600 million in worldwide box office receipts.  Williamson wrote the original film as well as “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.”

In addition to her signature role as Monica on “Friends,” Cox headlined ABC’s “Cougar Town.” She serves as an executive producer and host on Facebook Watch’s documentary series, “9 Months with Courteney Cox” via her Hopper Productions banner and Ample Entertainment, which has been on for two seasons. Cox will soon be seen in the upcoming horror comedy, “Shining Vale,” for Starz.

Radio Silence had  this to say about Cox joining the film, “We can’t imagine  ‘Scream’  without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the  ‘Scream’  saga!”
