Pop! Pop! Ep. 55 – CoronaCast: the Hollywood Shutdown!

First and foremost, everyone on Pop! Pop! the Pop Culture Podcast wishes you all a safe and productive quarantine during the CoronaVirus crisis! We ourselves are having a rough time with this pandemic, but if any of our listeners need help with anything, do not hesitate to reach out and we’ll try our best to do what we can!  With that said, QUARANTINE SUUUUCKS!  We’re forced to record remotely once again, but we’ve figured out how to make it sound decent! We apologize for last episode’s quality.

With Hollywood shut down indefinitely, not only have all three of us been affected work-wise, but dozens of blockbusters including Black Widow, Wonder Woman 1984, No Time to Die (James Bond 25)… and many, many more have been delayed until much later this year! Then there are the films currently in production, like Mission Impossible 7 & Fast and Furious 9, that have also been put on hold until further notice.  Amidst all of this, some studios are opting to release their films straight to VOD, skipping the theatrical release entirely for now; we question how will all of this change the shape of the industry and will we ever see a movie in theaters again!?

With only a few films released this year so far, we explore the worst-case scenario for the Oscars in 2021: the CoronaVirus pandemic lasting all year and no more films being released in 2020.  Will Sonic the Hedgehog win best picture!? Would we even have 10 films to nominate for best picture!?  Of course we’re expecting more releases towards the end of the year… but what if!?  All of this, plus an extended “What We’ve Been Watching” on this week’s (month’s?) episode of Pop! Pop! the Pop Culture Podcast!
