‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators Drop From Rumored ‘Star Wars’ Project

One announcement, other than the lackluster season finale of HBO’s “Game Of Thrones” that had everyone buzzing was that GOT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were gearing up to work with Lucasfilm on a new “Star Wars” trilogy.

This news broke right around the same time that Benioff and Weiss had announced a partnership with Netflix for which they are supposed to helm nine productions. It has not yet been revealed whether or not these will be film or television projects.

News has now been revealed that the pair are now no longer linked to any “Star Wars” film project, as they said, “We love Star Wars”the pair said in a statement to Deadline. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

It is obvious that despite the “Game Of Thrones” backlash the pair definitely have a lot on their plate coming up and we are definitely intrigued to see what they will have in the works with Netflix, so we can certainly understand their need to drop out of a massive undertaking like “Star Wars”. It was not revealed whether the pair left on their own accord or were dismissed from the project, but things do seem to be amicable.

Kathleen Kennedy is still a go since Rian Johnson is still working on a film, as is Kevin Feige. Until then, we will have the Mandalorian series, the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and The Rise of Skywalker movie. And it is certain that someone will take over from this trilogy soon: films are expected by 2022.
