Nerd Music’s Hidden Gem: The Heavy! Listen To Our Exclusive Interview!

To be honest, many people may not immediately recognize the name of the band The Heavy, but believe us you have most definitely heard their music, especially if you are a fan of television, film and video games! We like to look at The Heavy as being like nerd music’s, or better yet, pop culture’s hidden gem as these guys have seriously dabbled in just about every facet of entertainment’s soundtrack and they are utterly fantastic.

For instance, take their hit single “How You Like Me Now?” and give it a listen, you will instantly recognize the band and just how far this particular tune rose to the top (P.S. We are sorry if it will now be stuck in your head, but hey it’s that great of a tune!) The Heavy formed in 2007 in the West Country and with four incredibly successful albums released via hip British indie label Ninja Tune the band has just unleashed their fifth album “Sons” via ADA, and it’s a winner!

In addition to various ad campaigns, The Heavy’s music has been featured in film’s such as Dallas Buyers Club, The Hateful Eight, The Big Short and many others and television shows such as Entourage, True Blood, Suits,  and Grey’s Anatomy to only name a few. They have also been featured in movie trailers, ad’s, video games and even a US presidential elections (Obama).

With the help of this notoriety, the band has built an enviable worldwide fanbase and also performed on shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman, The Daily Show and Conan. They have played major International festivals including Glastonbury, Coachella, SXSW, INmusic Festival, Fuji Rock, Hurricane Festival, and T In The Park.

With the release of “Sons,” The Heavy further prove that they are not planning on slowing down anytime soon!  Starting out with their lead single “Better As One” The Heavy have laid the pace for their new album which is more a return to the basics for them and additional tracks such as “Fighting For The Same Thing”, “A Whole Lot Of Love” “What Don’t Kill You” and the album closer “Burn Bright” truly stand out and showcase the amazing musicianship that pours forth from this band. The album is definitely one of our favorite releases in 2019 thus far!

We recently had the chance to catch up with Kelvin Swaby vocalist for The Heavy to discuss the new album, the band’s mark in both nerd culture and pop culture and just what their plans are for the future. You can listen to our full interview below:
